The Basics Of Farm Fencing Systems
There are two main income streams that can be derived from farms. First are growing crops, and second are livestock. If you own a farm, you'd have to focus your efforts on either or both of these commodities. These commodities are your investments, after all.
And to protect your investments, you'd need to establish a farm fencing system. There are two reasons why a farm fencing system is necessary for a farming business:
1. Fences will prevent your livestock from wandering away from your farm; and 2. Fences will prevent the intrusion of outsiders into your farming area.
The first purpose is quite clear. A farm fencing system is needed so that your animals won't go astray. You'd need to confine them in an enclosure to keep them in check. The second purpose is meant to prevent the entry of outside forces into your farming territory. If you're keeping smaller animals, for example, you'd want to protect them against bigger predators. If you're keeping some growing crops, you'd want to protect them against damage caused by animals as well as humans who might inadvertently step on them.
There are different kinds of farm fencing systems you can decide to build. The specific type will have to depend on the purpose you will decide to pursue.
If you want to keep your livestock inside the enclosure, here are the setups available for you:
* Page wire setup. This fencing solution is a more or less permanent fixture on your farm, given the manner by which the posts will be planted and the way the wires will be pulled. Nonetheless, this setup provides sturdiness for the structure which the animals will find difficult to break.
* Suspension, or high tension, fences. Suspension fences are made to be elastic. They will not break when pulled. Instead, they will extend, though they will snap back into place immediately. This is a great solution for keeping animals that can become quite unruly.
If you want to keep outsiders away from your farming area, on the other hand, here are the setups you can avail of:
* Barbed wire fences. Barbed wire fences are composed of sharp thorns that will make it difficult for outside forces to remove, without having to suffer an injury.
* Electric fences. True to their name, electric fences electrocute any person or animal that comes in contact with their wires. Electric fences can also be used to keep livestock that can be trained through classical conditioning methods, but not on animals that are adamantly unruly as these fences will just punish them continuously.
